Playing Rock Music Is A Great Hobby

Throughout my life, I have always understood the importance of having a hobby. But, I’ve always been too busy to get out and enjoy leisure activities. In my older years, I can finally take the time to do what I love. When I’m not driving my Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet or spending time spoiling my grandkids, I’m playing rock and roll music.

Not on my stereo. I’m actually playing music.

I have a keyboard and I love to pound out chords and rock out to my favorite bands. I’m a big Beatles fan, so I imagine that I’m the fifth, like Billy Preston or George Martin, adding my Hammond organ sounds my favorite tunes. Maybe even a little like John Lennon, who played the organ on some of the tracks on Abbey Road.

I have found playing keyboard to be extremely rewarding, not only because I get to listen to my favorite music and play along, but because I get to be creative. I can experiment with the settings on my keyboard and teach myself how to play more advanced pieces. Reading music is challenging, but it is one that I strive to master.

I’ve always loved music and anyone who has met me at a traffic light has been subjected to my Porsche’s sound system. But, playing it makes me appreciate music even more. I know I’m not alone in my love of the Beatles and as I work on learning the music on my organ, I appreciate the genius of John, Paul, George, and Ringo even more. Playing one musical instrument is tough, but these guys could play them all while singing and writing music, too. We are certainly the benefactors of their genius as their music will live on forever.

One of my favorite things to do with my keyboard is to perform for my grandchildren. They think it’s a riot seeing their grandpa playing old music, but I know that sharing my love of music and my joy in having a hobby is something they will take with them. It’s important to be able to spend time doing something you love. I’m glad I get to do that as a way to relax and find respite from the hectic world of running a business.
